The Learning Net…

The WTF (WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter) generation that we are forever addicted to  internet, our parents and even we ourselves call the vast world of internet a Time killer!
But it goes without saying that there are loads of uses of internet and some real wow ways to use the internet is what I found out via this video of Usman Riaz at Franklin Templeton Investments partnered the TEDxGateway Mumbai in December 2012.

This man actually learnt the fabulous art called music all by watching youtube videos , how cool? Yup pretty cool! cooler than posting some quirky status updates on twitter or getting loads of likes on a facebook photo.
Internet is a vast fascinating ocean of knowledge which always stumped with the way I get anything and everything I want at my fingertips.

This reminds me of a female friend of mine from a very conservative Muslim family who was getting married, I went to her marriage already expecting a wedding high on bling and traditions. When I went up to to wish the bride I was surprised to see how beautiful she looked. Her makeup was flawless. I was surprised certainly her father wouldn’t have allowed her to take up services of a Makeup Artist . On inquiry I found out that she had mastered the art of make to look a perfect bride from youtube videos… ! All she had needed to do was purchase the right cosmetics and brushes.

More not so conventional constructive uses of internet

  • To learn cooking.. Yes with videos of chefs like sanjeev kapoor at your finger tips you can cook like your mom if not better :D
  • Rent a house: You can save money (brokers) by  searching for rental properties on internet. My cousin actually uses the services of sites like Sulekha to get tenants to her house
  • Hair style: Say bye bye to parlour visits... Youtube has countless videos to teach us different hair styles to don for special occasions
  • Education: In remote areas where good teachers arent available internet can serve as a tool for better quality education

Iam still into discovering more smart ways to use internet but all iam trying to say is internet is a huge boon to mankind, having potential to educate people in remote areas, connect people, serve as a platform for artists to promote their work (justin bieber anyone? ) etc..
But the world of internet has its share of cons too. It is home to ills like piracy, cyber bullying, time killing sites and so much more , but it is upto individuals to keep focus not let their eyes stray away from the goal ever.
