Collegedunia Web Pvt Ltd raises over $150K in angel funding

Collegedunia Web Pvt Ltd, which owns Collegedunia.com an educational classified portal which provides information of colleges and universities across India has has raised Rs 1 crore ($162,787) in angel funding from MIH-acquired automobile site gaadi.com's CEO Umang Kumar, along with a bunch of undisclosed investors. According to reports on VCCircle Collegedunia Web Pvt Ltd looks forward utilize these funds in enhancing the technology, operations and for marketing of the collegedunia portal.

This website which acts as a search engine for exams, colleges and courses helps students make right career choices especially in their pre Admission session as it offers information like cut offs, Placements, Admission, Fees , Reservation etc. Students can use Collegedunia.com like a search engine to search for information regarding ideal colleges, available courses and admission process for higher education in india or abroad.

In a press release on Businesswire India, Sahil Chalana, Founder of Collegedunia.com said,“The overall Spends on Education in the Digital Marketing space exceed 500 Crore and growing at more than 30% YoY. Although, print takes a big chunk of the 5000 Education Advertising Market, its moving much faster towards Digital.” Chalana added,”it plans to become the Zomato of the education industry”.

Collegedunia.com was founded in May 2014 with aims of bridging the gap between data catered and quality of information sought by college aspirants offering information of about 700 colleges across the country.

The delhi based Collegedunia Web Pvt Ltd makes money from combination of listing and lead generation. When students apply for courses and colleges through the website, Collegedunia receive a Cost Per Lead (CPL) from the college authorities. They also add banner ads of colleges and institutions to earn revenue.Currently, The portal has 30 employees across technology, content, call center and sales departments and plans to hire 40 more in next six months. The team plans to add data on 7,000 to 8,000 colleges in six months. In the long run, the site will also look at listing coaching institutes, polytechnic institutes and entrance exams details. At present the collegedunia.com portal claims to be attracting one lakh visitors per month and is hoping to increase this number to a million in six months.
